The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hi to all 'visitors' and members of this forum!
This thread is to help us to get to know a little bit more about each other and will stay at the top of the forum so that new visitors will be able to find out who everybody is!
First of all, I'm Katy... from Manchester, England. And yes... (sorry to say) I'm a Man United fan! They are 'in my blood', I'm afraid, because I grew up with them.
I'm a teacher at a large primary school, so as well as running this forum (and a social life! )I also have a busy career to keep going. For that reason I am so grateful to all the fantastic people who help with this forum and to all the fans who make so many regular posts!
Please join in and say a few words about yourselves in this thread!
Let's keep Bati's forum alive and kicking!

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hi to everyone!
My name is Alexey. I'm from Ukraine. Sure, as anyone of us here, I'm the big fan of Batigoal! I'm 18 year old student of the historicl faculty.
I have seen this forum a year or 2 ago, but I gaven't found it useful as long as long as I used russian sources about Batigoal... After he moved to Qatar situation has completely changed.... ALL russian sources died... nearly 3 or 4 months I have been suffering without information, but then have decided to do something with my own hands. So while looking for the information I have seen your forum again... Thank you all for you exist! Thank you for the creation of this forum! I'm so happy to be here together with you all...
A bit about me - I like Dinamo Kiew and disdain Andriy Shevchenko... Also I hate our football fans.
And I think Voronin is the BEST Ukrainian player!
Froza Bati! Forza any of you!
Lexa.

hello!
I am Sharjeel Mirza, a looong time Bati fan from India.
I fell in love with Bati when I saw him play for Argentina with Maradona. After he moved to Fiore, we used to get regular updates, until he moved to Qatar. After his move, this forum is all that I have.
I almost cried when i saw him devastataed after this WC's debacle. I think this WCs Argentina team must have the best team for a long time with Veron, Ortega, Batigol, Simeone, etc.
Batistuta will surely live on in our memories.

I'm Franca from Belgium... i'm married and have two children... my origins are italian... I discovered Bati when he arrived in Firenze and since that time i followed him... i'm a big Bati's fans but my team is AC Milan... my children are Bati's hinchas (as they say in Argentina)too. We appreciate the player a lot but the man too... so we hope that after this last year with Al Arabi he'll be able to realize his dream : wearing the viola's shirt again...or why not becoming the team's coach!!! He gave us so much that the only thing i want for him is : happiness for his future as player or not but most of all with Irina and their sons.
Thanks a lot dear Gabriel we'll always love you

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
I am Juan Juan Ramón Kempés from heart of B.A - Argentina. i'm 38, male and a family man working as a news agent in the local press here + spend some time on my family business too. i am following fútbol argentino from 1970-71 (long time). I consider myself a born River fan. although my father was pro-boca but it never influenced me to be a bostero. now i have a funny little battle in my home as my wife is boca tifosa so is my younger son (fun for whole family particularly at the superclasico time).
for gabrieal now - i've the pleasure to say i've seen every bit of his career. from il lombrico to internazionale i've seen him grow. from a young party guy grown to a world class mrksman. Re-Leone wore #9 in the absence of Gabrich in the Newell's squad for the semi final game in the Copa Libertadores against San Lorenzo. he won the hearts of all the Argentino in that game. the news everywhere was "here we have got next argentino star" even though he didn't score but i remember (even i) had thought this boy will go to the biggest stages of fútbol mundial. Gabriel did me proud for my words. He then joined my club River and really pleased the River tifosi. next season he went to boca (for displeasure of many of river tifosi). at boca he made his name and became one of the elletes of South América. then joined Viola, almost a decade there, then roma, internazionale and then al-arabi. became the all time leading gole scorer for Argentina. we are proud of this son of argentina. i have the previlage of seeing his entire career and at the end of the day i'm pleased and proud to say EL CAMION SIMPLEMENTE UN GENIO.
thats all about my personal info and bati related memories. i'm pleased to be a part of this bati fan community here as a senior argentino tifoso spokesman and correspondant here i will keep contributing in this board and wish KATY all the best for the betterment and further development of this board dedicated to one of favorite sons of Argentina.
ciao

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hi
I am from Norway, half way through my twenties and currently on my fourth year at university(Trondheim), getting a Masters degree in Language and Literature(I´m a literature fanatic). I also have a bachelor in economy(not really my thing, so I switched to L&L instead
Football is my "getting away from everything stressful" card. It is a space to have fun, scream and shout and just let everything else go for a couple of hours
I became a devoted football fan in 96 or 97, and I became a devoted Bati fan half way through the WC in FRance in 1998. I first discovered this site during the Scudetto season, I loved it and have been here ever since For me this site has been a very welcome port of information about my fav player.
People here are amazing
Beside from being a Bati fan and a fan of whatever team he is on , I´m a huge Rosenborg fan(like Katy´s ManU, it´s just something that´s in the blood )

Hi, I'm Christine. I'm English but I've lived in Buenos Aires for 4 years and I will soon be returning to the UK. I travel a lot with my job!
I 'discovered' Bati when I lived in Italy 10 years ago and have been a devoted follower ever since. I found Jas's site and Katy's forum in 1998 soon after the World Cup. I've been to watch Bati play many times in Italy and in Champions League games in England, and Katy and I went to Florence together in 2001 to watch his first game for Roma away to Fiorentina. Happy days!!!
You'll see that I'm listed as one of Katy's helpers on the forum. I don't really deserve the credit these days as I can't find much information about Bati here in Argentina, and I don't do as much translating of Bati articles aas I used to!
I miss watching Bati play and wish we knew what is going on with him in Qatar.

Hello my name is Brigitte,I'm 20 years old and i absolutely adore Bati and i also miss him terribly i have followed his career since 1998 world cup, he's just simply the best there is and I haven't watched football for five years becuz of him and his move to the middleeast, I was brought to tears earlier today becuz i glimpsed at espn to catch the ucl and I just miss his presence, the italian serie a and his native Argentina would not be the same without our Beloved Bati.In 2002 that dreadful day when England supposively beat Argentina and the other dreadful day when they were knocked out I had an emotional breakdown just before my major exams becuz I loved him so much I could not bear to see him hurt. I love him too much and it burdens my heart that I may never see him on the world stage again .Well that's all I have to say Viva Bati! may u live on in our hearts forever I love you till death You won the in my heart

I came to gabriel around the 1998 world cup. Firstly, it was on facial appeal! Then, I saw what an exciting player he was! So, my only regret is that I didn't notice his talent earlier.Maybe if I'd been a total football junkie, I'd have noticed him before he even went to Italy!
I live in England ( Nottingham)but came from Jamaica, originally.I work in a hospital as an auxiliary nurse. I enjoy travelling ,would love to go everywhere!! I love music of every kind; my music collection goes from dance to heavy rock and classical, and whatever folk and ethnical diversity between! So, Vivaldi,Metallica,Ella fitzgerald Basement Jaxx; here I come!!

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hello all!
My name is King and yes, that is my real name. I am 24 and I hail from the Carribbean but I've been living in the States for over a decade now. Being born in the Carribbean, my love affair with football started at a very early age. I can still remember watching the 86 WC, still being a couple of months shy of my 6th birthday. Those images will forever be engraved in my mind. That pretty much started my infatuation with the Argentinian team and more importantly, Diego.
When it comes to football, the only thing I like more than watching is playing. So over the years, I've come to acquire a significant amount of knowledge about the game. I used to be a big Napoli fan back in the days of "Ma-Gi-Ca"...I lived for those derbies against Milan, Inter, & Juve but now I don't really pull for any club teams anymore. So my heart is divided among all the teams that have any national team players in them.
Among my favorite football moments, I count when Diego lifted the trophy in 86, the 2nd scudetto in 90 (or was it 89?), and when we beat Brazil in the WC in 90 after being dominated for much of the match.
I will end by saying that I am a lover of the game and I am glad I found this board where I can meet with fellow Argentina enthusiasts. Thank you all.

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
So, i'm Mariela from Bulgaria...
Obviously i'm the biggest and craziest fan of BATI in Bugaria
Honestly, I follow him since the World Cup in France'98...
Sooo sorry that i didn't follow him earlier... I really regret for this....
In France'98 it happened in this way:
I saw GABRIEL BATISTUTA in the beginning of the game between Argentina and England... When i say HIS eyes, i told to myself" "It's HIM! Nobody is the same! Nobody can be like HIM! HE is!"....
I'm working as a video editor and sports journalist at the only sports TV in Bulgaria called Ring TV..
What else can i say....
I'm happily married already 7 years...
Still don't have kids cause i still have sooooo many dreams to be fullfilled...
I can't live without my dreams... really...
I think i was really touched by destiny when in the last 2 years i had the chance to fullfill my 2 biggest dreams - to see BATI with my eyes...
One time in Italy, one time in Qatar....
Actually, in Qatar (last year) i became the only bulgarian TV journalist who has taken an interview with BATI... But it's not so important really...
I don't care about it...
The most important thing in my meeting with HIM in Qatar was the fact that i've given HIM the GOLDEN BALL AWARD which BATI deserved sooooooo much but has been never able to win...
I wrote on it "GABRIEL BATISTUTA - The Winner of the Golden Ball in the Hearts of his Fans"...
I think HE really deserves it....
(THANKS sooooooo much, Jas for putting this title here on our Forum)...
THANKS sooooo much, Katy for making me part of the moderators here....
THANK YOU for keeping alive here that love to the greatest BATIGOL...
FORZA GABRIEL OMAR BATISTUTA!
ALWAYS AND FOREVER!
Mariela

Yes Katy I agree its a wonderful thread!
I am Daryl I am from the Caribbean as well Trinidad and Tobago. I have just finsished my 1st degree, I am begining my Masters soon, as well as doing a Law degree before heading off to start my Ph.d.
I have been a batifan since he won his first Copa america in the early 1990s when he scored in the final....I followed his career to florence, then rome, milan..........all the time watching him with his humble soul capturing the scoring records along with millions of fans.
I can't remember when I joined the forum but its been ages .I read soo many touching stories about him on this forum. Hes definalely one of those rare players whose charm was off the field as on it. Apart from being a pilot, dad, husband , farmer, hunter, businessman, author!, and the most amazing centre fwd of all time..he still made time for his charites and kids all over the world. Football is his job not his life, his wife and kids remain his true love, and he made that clear.
I must thank Katy and Jas along with everyone else for contributing to this forum...I can't imagine where I would get news about Gaby.
I continue to follow gabriel since hes personality is indeed majestic, hes indeed a role ,model and has been a main 1 for me. Its a testament to him too have soo many fans from soo many countries all around the world with sooo many contrasting cultures.
Forza Gabriel !

Hi, i am a 23 year old from Vietnam living in the UK.
My love for Argentinian football originated from a raffle ticket in the 1990 world cup. That year the local school had a raffle competition and the ticket i picked out was argentina. Having seen maradonna's performance and passion it just stuck to me. Since then i have followed and supported all argentinian footballers as much as i can.
I am pleased to find many people who share the same passion and i think that this forum is great place to share information and express opinions.

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hi, my name is Tony and I have visited this site for 3 or 4 years for news and good threads of conversation and debate.
My appreciation of Batistuta was ignited watching the Arsenal v Fiorentina match at Wembley, when after about 70+ minutes of no chances at goal, he received the ball, turned the defender and beat Seaman from an acute angle, it was a classic goal only achievable by the few like him.
Scudetto day was a great highlight, Channel 4 cutting the games after the crowd invasion a downside,(for a rally programme, not that I am bitter).
I was able to visit the Stadio Olympico in his second season where unfortunately no goal came from him, but the buzz when he was on the ball was amazing, and a spine chilling moment when Zampa called out "Gabriel!..." in the team list at the start and 70,000 romanisti call "Batistuta!."
I hope this forum continues for a long time, thanks Katy and Co.

Bati in Qatar
Hello. I live and work in Doha, Qatar and met Bati a year and a half ago. I was playing golf at Doha Golf Club by myself one night and he came up to me and asked if he could play a round with me. I am American so I dont watch or know anything about soccer so I thought he was just a normal guy. I said sure and we played the last 7 holes together with his wife Irina and there young baby by his side. After the match he asked for my phone number and said he would call me to go have dinner sometime. I thanked him and went on my way not thinking much of it. He called over the weekend and we had a big BBQ at his house. He showed me many pictures and told me about his career. We now have been friends for almost 2 years and play golf together 3-4 times a week. I go to his house for BBQ's 3-4 times a month. He is the nicest guy and when we go out to eat the fans all come up to him and he signs everything for them and takes pictures. He and Irina and the kids are the best and I am glad to have met him and become his friend! I did not know anything about him and still dont understand much about soccer but you all have a great guy in Bati!! He was the leading scorer here last year and broke the record for most goals in Qatar! He is a great friend and a wonderful guy! Take it easy and see you soon...Just a small update from Qatar.

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Chad, have you discussed this board with Bati? If so what does he think?
You need to respond via a new thread (as this is not the place)
We all need to know that you are genuine. For eg, we recently had an idiot posting a porn site address; on another site, I was conned out of money. So, I'm in no mood for jokers.
We need proof ,Photographic etc; everyone can will then have a chance to make up their minds about your authenticity. So, start a new thread, and show us what you've got. Don't let us down!!! I live in hope,I'm not a total cynic!!!

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
I'm 1/2 Argentinian and 1/2 Lebaneese and I live in Miami,Florida USA with my husband and 5 month old daughter. I'm afraid I havent really been as a great a fan as most of you have been, but you can imagine being surrounded by my Argentinian side of the family here in Miami, everyone is consumed by futbol. Unfortunately, in the US, they don't really follow it much. I always watch the world cup, but I really didn't become a huge fan till my trip to Italy 2 years ago, when they were showing highlights of his career on TV and I was hooked.

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hi,my name is Desmond Vincent.I am from sunny Singapore and i am a Batistuta fan for 7 years and still counting.I love soccer alot and i`m a die-hard Manchester United fan.I do play soccer alot and i model myself after Batistuta and van Nistelrooy.I am as tall as Peter Crouch and i am 18 years old this year.I am doing Telecommunications Engineering right now.I play soccer for my Church`s altar boys in Singapore and in my debut tournament i got a Silver while in my 2nd tournament i won a gold.I am a typical centre-forward and my main attribute is my goal poaching as well as strength(surprisingly,i don`t use my head as well as i should)...well i am still young,so its nice to know all of you people and good to see the United fans there.Batistuta for LIFE!!!!!!

Re: The "Getting to know you" thread.
Hi, I'm Lex, from Boston, in the States.
I've been a fan of Bati for years. Ever since I first saw him play, I was struck by his total joy and exuberance in the game. He just lit up the stadium. You could tell that he just loved what he was doing, that there was nowhere else he'd rather be. And so I was swept right along!
I like to read and travel. I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan, and I write fanfiction for the TV show, "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World."
Love - Lex

Great to see people in this thread who don't post very often. WELCOME to all of you!
There are still a lot of regulars who haven't left a post, yet. Just a little bit of information would help us to know a bit more about you!
Come on... let us all 'get to know you'!
PS.. one more post and this thread will go onto it's 2nd page. When this happens, just click the "Next Page" button, below the thread.!
