What kind of recording equipment do you recomend for a rock band trying to make pro quality recordings like you |

That's a pretty tricky question, because it assumes one big thing that's not necessarily so: That good equipment is the only thing necessary to make a great recording. When I'm working on a song, and I'm struggling with a mix, to get it just right, I sometimes remember that the Beatles' Sargent Pepper album (one of the most treasured of all classic rock albums) was recorded and mixed on less equipment than I currently have in my basement. That's kinda humbling. Having said that, though, here's what I use: I've got a nice medium to up-scale computer and I'm running Cubase SX v3 as my recording software. I've got a pro-level Sound card with 8 inputs and 8 outputs. I've got two large-diaphragm condensor microphones. I've got a Behringer V-Amp (a guitar plug-in that simulates lots of different amplifier styles). I've heard people make good recordings on less than this, though. I'd love to pass along any advice as you go... MRKH |
