was told of the problem 15 years ago and ignored it til now

when i was 13 years old i was told that i was having problems with the pressure in my eyes. i remember i had to go to the eye doc once a week for 5 weeks and had to take eye drops. over the years i was told i might want to see a glaucoma specialist to check things over... i ignored these recomendations for years. i thought i was too young to worry about an old person's disease. a few weeks ago i went in for another routine examain & for some concerns about my vision and i was slightly scolded for not seeing a real doc yet. my optometrist went into detail about what was going on and NOW im scared and yes i did make an appt! i've having trouble seeing at night since i was a teen and am having trouble with what i call "eye headaches". my vision blurs by evening and im worried i waited too long. what should i expect at the doctors???

To have developed frank Pigment Dispersion Syndrome at 13 yrs is very unusual, to have raised Intra Ocular Pressure even more so. And it tends to be in families with a strong family history.

What will probably happen when you attend your appt is an examination of the front of your eye (in particular the corneal endothelium (rear layer of the clear window of skin at the front of the eye), iris (the site of pigment release) and drainage angle (where the pigment ends up).

You are also likely to have pressure testing, a visual field exam (a test of peripheral vision) and an examination of the optic nerve head (where nerves from inside the eye leave the eye and go back to the brain). This may involve drops to dilate your pupils.

Depending on the results of these tests your ophthalmologist will decide if treatment is required and if it is, what type.

Incidently problems with night vision is not generally related to PDS. But the examination should rule out other pathology as well.

Feel free to post again with more questions or an update of the result of your appointment.
