New (kind of) PDS
Hi! Thanks for this site. Yesterday I was officially diagnosed with PDS (not sure if KS too). An eye doctor did mention "leaking pigmentation" several years ago, but this is the first someone gave it a name and the needed info. I also was diagnosed (after some questionable care with another opthamologist last year) with a “Choroidal lesion," which means they don't know exactly what it is. I have many, many tests to do now. Both problems are in my left eye only. Does anyone know if there may be a connection between the two? Looking forward to learning more from you all. -Jami Portland, OR, USA

Re: New (kind of) PDS
PIgment Dispersion Syndrome is associated with a retinal (the retina is the light sensitive layer at the back of the eye & is next to the choroid) lesion called lattice degeneration. Lattice degeneration is a peripheral retinal lesion consisting of oval shaped areas of retinal thinning. It is fairly common (some 7% of the population but can be found in up to a third of people with PDS). It is normally benign but can be associated with retinal detachment in some circumstances. However, I don't believe this can be what they have mentioned to you. It is very easily identified & certainly wouldn't elicit such concern. There are a wide variety of choroidal or retinal lesions & it is absolutely right that they be thoroughly investigated but it is unlikly to be PDS related. Hope this helps. Dave |
