Sunglasses and vitamins? I just got diagnosed with PDS, my pressure and everything is normal. I was just wondering how I can protect my eyes. For Instance-will wearing sunglasses help and why? And does anyone know of any good supplements to take? Thanks! Dianna, 28, USA. Apr 15, 06 - 12:23 AM Re: sunglasses and vitamins? Sunglasses can't hurt. I wear polarized sunglasses when outside in the daytime. I don't know their effect on alleviating PDS but sunglasses should be worn even by people with no eye problems. As for vitamins, I'm taking lutein supplements, but I have no idea of their effect. Again, lutein can't hurt. I'm more hesitant about Ginkgo biloba, though - too many unknowns. Michael, 40. May 7, 06 – 2:54 AM Caffeine? Lutein? I'm wondering if people with PDS should avoid caffeine. One of my favorite drinks is Diet Coke, and where I live thee is no caffeine-free Diet Coke available. Does caffeine increase IOP? I've also been taking lutein supplements because lutein is supposed to be good for your retina. Does this help? It certainly can't hurt - it's an antioxidant and is found in abubdance in leafy green vegetables. Are there other supplements that I should take or things I should avoid? Thanks Michael, 40. May 7, 06 - 2:49 AM Re: Caffeine? Lutein? That's an interesting point, Michael... I've been on decaffeinated coffee from the time I found out that I was pregnant, which was the time I stopped taking the Xalatan drops. I'd expected my IOPs to increase, but at the last check up they had stayed the same. It would be interesting to find out if anyone else has noticed anything similar. I'd not heard about Lutein supplements. I adore broccoli and other vegetables, so tend not to take supplements. Tracy, 40, UK.
