Re: k.s.d.

Peripheral: Meaning to to the side of your vision. Bilateral: Meaning both sides or eyes.
Photopsia: Meaning the perception of flashing lights.

These can have many causes but the most common one, perhaps especially in a PDS patient, is pulling on the retina by the vitreous jelly. The retina (the photosensitive layer at the back of the eye) can only respond one way (vision) no matter if it's prodded, heated or light falls on it.

So tugging on the retina produces a light response. This can be a sign of active problems, and therefore should be checked, but is fairly common and often harmless.

If this is mentioned on your letter, I'm sure they have already checked the back of the eye and concluded that this is benign.

Re: k.s.d.

I'm an optometrist who happens to have PDS. Currently split between private practice and university based work.

I should say that I'm sure the Doctor could explain it as well (maybe better) than I did, if only they were able to take the time to do so. But that is unfortunately pretty rare.
