New Year LAN Party

We may have to make a change this year to the tradition. I won't be in the state on New Year's Eve, so we'll have to turn this into a New Year LAN Party (since I posess most of the infrastructure). New Year's Eve is a Monday. We'll have to reschedule for Friday. So, for 2008, the tentative date will be Friday Jan 4th to the morning of Jan 5th. There will still be fireworks, but I guess it won't be for the same reason as before.
Actually, Jan 4th is Sir Isaac Newton's birthday. To celebrate, we'll demonstrate each of his three laws of motion using contraband explosives.
There will also be cake. If our baker can theme it to Newton that would be B.A.

In the meantime, I need a headcount to make sure that attendance is a go for this. Andrew, alert the GZR to the proceedings and see who wants to attend. Craig, please verify that your garage will be available that evening. Erin... will you even be around then? Matt, tell Amy about the cake. Everyone else, find and suggest good multiplayer games. Alright, I think that's it. Let's go, people!

Re: New Year LAN Party

I'll be driving to Utah to make a quilt, sorry. I'll only be in the Bay Area until the 26th, then it's AZ and then to UT. Eventually, I'll make it back home, but not in time to be pleasant during the Sea-Tac convention, sorry. Have fun at your LAN party!

Re: New Year LAN Party

Count me in, as always. And it sounds like Piotr will come too. So thats 2.

Piotr wants Alien vs. predator 2, Medieval 2: Total War, Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour, and Supreme Commander. Oh yeah, also Smash.
I'd like to recommend Unread Tournament 2004, because that game is awesome. I'll also ask for Generals, and perhaps some Team Fortress. Anyone got TF2?
I'd also be up for Total Annihilation, as always.

Of these mentioned, the games that Piotr can run are any, and the games I can run are as follows:
AvP2, C&C:Generals, UT2k4, TF, TA

I could play a mean Sim City if someone could give it to me. (Please do!)

Re: New Year LAN Party

C&C Generals is fine, we have many copies of that. Unreal Tourney I want to try, but I believe only you have. We will need CD-keys and no-CD cracks. Andy has TF2, but there is a wonderful new system in the pipe that prevents easy game sharing. It would be neat, but we'll have to talk to Andy about feasibility. I think you can't even play the game without registry at Steam, but someone told me it can be downloaded for a price. Matt also has Medieval II.
Some of these games no one else has, so please provide a the CD and a no-cd crack if you want others to join.
I'd rather steer away from any consoles because they distract from the PC aspect. I feel wasteful playing console games when we spend three hours of setup time on the network. But, it may be nice if someone has a computer crash or whatever and is bored.

Like always, games that can be widely supported are TribesV, Team Fortress Classic, TA, and I found SW Battlefront II. Although last time Battlefront crashed the server. I feel that FPS games are generally better for the whole LAN setting, since you can hop in/hop out whenever.
I'd like to give Unreal a try, so provide me a copy of the game so I can check for multiplayer/server/hacking issues.

Great.
Matt

Lan party

I've gotten the most recent version of Star Wars: Warlords to run, so Andrew and I can play that.

Re: New Year LAN Party

The date should be good. Unless I get kicked out of college (always a possibility) and my parents decide that they will no longer sanction this kind of tomfoolery at the residence. Probably best to have some sort of backup plan.

Re: New Year LAN Party

I'm not sure if I can make it, but I'll try, I might be going to SoCal then. Also for games what about Diablo II and X-Wing vs. TIE? And of course I want to play TA.

Kicked out of college?

Just how likely is this event that you have suggested to occur? I suppose we could draft a contingency plan. I think we'll have to ask Amy if we could do it at her place in the event of misfortune. Using both the garage and her room I think it would work- but certainly that is only backup.

I don't think Diablo II would work well, but we can attempt anything.
Andrew got another expansion pack for TA, but I don't recommend using it because it unbalances the game badly. The defensive units are so overpowered it is impossible to win without rushing.
<--- that's a boat.

Re: New Year LAN Party

I honestly have no idea what is going to happen in the next week.

So make contingency plans, even though we may not have to use them.

I really want to play X-wing vs. TIE fighter, but I don't have a copy.

Cleared for launch

Craig OK'd the use of his garage on that day, so the date is set.

Meanwhile Sarah has scheduled a party on the same night... so in case you get an invite nobody is allowed to go to that .
