Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
This is where I will be taking votes on the theme and date of the christmas classic-a-thon. It will be held at Matt and my apartment. For the next couple days, this section will be open to a brief discource on possible dates and themes. Go for it. |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Space. Classic or New space themed movies. Depending on how many we can fit in, I'd suggest the following: Star Trek: Insurrection or Nemesis (only seen them once) Galaxy Quest Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (its a Christmas party) Star Wars: A New Hope (classic or special edition) Or perhaps the first episode of every Star Trek series. (TOS, TNG, DS9, STV, STE) Yes, including Enterprise. In fact, I'd suggest watching that one first, so we can compare it with the original, and because supposedly it comes first. |

Bear in mind, the last one we did was Star Trek |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
The last one had A[/I] star trek movie. Count them ONE. Wrath of Khan. Every other movie was not Star Trek based. Besides, we could also just go with the first one, which is generically space themed. As I said previously, I suggest potentially a star trek movie, preferably from TNG, Galaxy Quest, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, and Star Wars: pick one. The every premier of star trek idea could possibly be just for another time. |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Andrew, our theme was Star Trek last year. We do, however, have the first episode of TOS, Insurrection, and all the Star Wars movies, plus we're going to get Nemesis. I want to theme it Mel Brooks. We could watch Blazing Saddles and play Legends and then play some sci-fi game as we watch Spaceballs. |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
I think we should have a more specific theme, since we probably won't be watching more than one movie. The theme generally means 1)the movie we're watching and 2)the ornament for whoever runs it. We could do something like "Serenity" or "Santa Clause conquers the martains", but we need to find an ornament. Here's a brief list of ideas I had floating around my head at the time of this posting: Santa Clause conquers the martains Star Wars Holiday special Any one Lord of the Rings movie Any one star trek movie, besides wrath of Khan |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Sounds like a plan... I actually went out and got an ornament that might be interesting, (well, more accurately, Magda went to BigLots and I was tagging along, and she suggested that it would be cool.) In any case, I think it would fit the Santa Claus Conquers the Martians theme. I'll show it to you when next I see you. Or should it be a surprise? This is in no way casting my vote toward any of the movies suggested thus far. It is simply a statement of what I have done, and it happens to fit. |

I think it should be Christmas themed
Barring that I vote for the Mel Brooks idea.

How about the muppets. A wonderful memory from childhood. Or a really funny Japanese film that has nothing to do with xmas; Adorenarin doraibu. Its about a guy and a girl that are chased down by the Japanese mob, laughs to be had by all.

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Let's see Tron. In response to Amy's muppets idea, I have a copy of Labyrinth. It's not really THE muppets, but puppets are excessively used. I guess it's similar to The Dark Crystal we saw last year. Oh, and I also vote for Monty Python's The Life of Brian. It's too bad Kiss Saves Santa isn't a real movie.

Muppets, and Life of Brian sound good, Also a random japanese movie that has nothing to do with christmas sounds like fun too. I mean, how awesome was Prince of Space! Anyway... Yeah... I could bring My Neighbor Totoro |

I liked Tron, but the puppets sound like fun. Some of Mel Brooks' movies are really funny, but some of them are very weird. Whatever is decided will be fun, though. |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
That's a useful poll. Nobody flood it with repeat votes please! I know its tempting. I'm going to invite more people today. This is going to be pretty cool. I think we should go find another couch. I know how to get them for free. We could build a platform out of some wood we can go find and make stadium seating. That would be really awesome. I think for the sake of how cool it would be it is worth the effort. I have most of the necessary tools, just need to go on a free couch hunt. Worth the time or nay?

That sounds awesome. But where would we put it? Anyway... I'm totally bringing a DVD/VHS of the 80's Dr. Who, with Tom Baker, so I can show everyone where my scarf comes from. |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Joel- Stadium seating would be cool. Maybe you could put the couch on a coffee table, those tend to be pretty long and also not very tall for getting on the back sofa. I think it would be worth the effort and it would be totally awesome. |

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Stadium seating may hurt the Yule time atmosphere we've built in the apartment. There wil be two rooms in constant use, the living room and the game room. Though stadium seating would increase seationg, it would also take away floor space, which is at a premium with our 7-foot live Christmas tree. The response to the party this year is far greater than ever before. I'm going to need to warn the downstairs neighbours about it. Also, Amy and I are going to build a necromunda building out of gingerbread. During the party we're going to make eggnog, snowballs, and snow bunnies, but the sheer number of people will be difficult to feed. People are going to need to bring food. |

More people
I have more potential invites if you think we could use more people... but I don't think we do. What time of day are we starting this? I like the idea of having another couch, at least just for the movie-time. We can put it out on the patio for the rest of the party. There are free couches all up and down the street on my way to school. I just don't want to run out of seating for the movie-time, since that is the point of the party.

Re: Doomed Legion Christmas Classic-A-thon
Come Thursday we'll see if we can get this new couch in through the door. I'm actually skeptical it will fit, its 8 feet long. I know where we can get more that will hopefully be smaller- if in fact we need to resort to a contingency plan! That will give something more for people to sleep on too. |

The couch idea was a success! Get ready for some fun! By the way, I'm typing this on a Dvorak.
