Areas of specific interest, architectural and historical value and important to the character of Eaglescliffe

Area North of the Conservation Area from Witham Avenue to the boundary near the school between the Railway and Yarm Road Reasons - To preserve tbe street scene and in particular as mentioned in Malcolm Wi1kinson's book, because the houses in Lilac and Myrtle Road were homes of the original Quarry Workers at the turn of the century.

Two Houses on Yarm Road next to the Allotments - both Victorian and the Georgian Farmhouses next to the Park near the Allotments, because of their historical and architectural value

East of Yarm Road down to Teesbank and the River, including both sides of Ashville and the Area including the Avenue and Yarm Road to the Golf Course - to preserve the street scene, quality properties with particular architectural and historical features and original historical gardens, and preserve the character of Eaglescliffe

To include Railway Terrace because they were among the oldest houses in Eaglescliffe built by the Railway Company in the 1870s and at the same time as the new station. All these original inhabitants were connected with the Railway.

The areas south of the Conservation Area are of particular value because they are all houses of individual architectural value ranging from Victorian through to the 19308 and all add to the street scene and are of particular importance, and add a positive impact on the character of Eaglescliffe.

The whole of Yarm Road down to Yarm has to be preserved because it has a particular character and the houses whether new or old make a significant contribution to the uniqueness of the Road, which is after all one of the major routes through the area.

The whole of West View and part of Newsam Road have also been included as they contain fine examples of period vernacular architecture.

Yarm Area

In addition to the historic architecture of the Conservation Area, Yarm has certain areas of architecturally interesting properties of different periods, principally of the thirties and sixties. Many of these lie within the Leven Road (which is an especially impressive avenue), Fishponds and Valley Drive areas. We are particularly concerned with protecting the River Bank Area that does not at present lie within the Conservation Area.

Another concern is to protect the impressive gateway to Stockton through Yarm via the Spital, Yarm High Street and Yarm Road.

We are aware that some of the areas indicated already lie within the green wedge.
