Message:   Well, I am a little late in getting this typed out. I will use the excuse that things have been hectic.

For those of you who don't know me. Hello my name is Sara Nylander and I live waay down in Alice Texas (near Corpus Christi). My mom and I drove up to Ft Worth to help out at the G2TT's booth for the Armed Forces Bowl.

At that point in time, we hadn't attended anything G2TT related. We had been up to Corinth to visit the Texas branch, but never attended an event.

I have thought alot about how to describe my trip, and experience... and the best word I can come up with is rewarding.

Rick Collins (Texas G2TT branch director) took my mom and I to the storage place Sunday morning... explained how the donations are rec'd, documented, sorted, and then packed and sent to our troops. We then went and set up the G2TT booth (hint put the table cloth on before the table skirt)... and then we got to see the booth in action.
At first my mom and I were quite shy (alright it is hard to get us to say a word)... but by the end of the day... we were telling everyone about G2TT. (I think that my mom even told the desk lady at the hotel when we got back from dinner)
Monday we went and helped in the booth again... then we got to attend the game... then it was the long drive home.

Anywho, my point in this long rambling post.
Miss Andi... you have created an amazing organization. It makes me smile to be able to say "yes, I'm a volunteer with G2TT". So thank you!

The best story of the trip, and it still makes me tear up to think of it.
A group of people my age (I was going to say young people, but LOL that doesn't work for me) came up to the booth. We told them about G2TT... asked if they needed tickets for the game (explained the whole donation exchange thing)... and we found out that the gentleman in the group was a Marine on leave for his 2 week R&R. We then asked how many tickets he wanted... he called around and ended up taking 2. He politely refused to take anymore then he needed (we wanted to get them all seats together). The Marine himself didn't donate (he had no cash), but his friends did.
Monday rolls around and this Marine and his group of friends come up to the booth... with bags of donations. And he apologized because the 2 tickets we had given them weren't going to be used... the friends couldn't make it.

Anyways... I was COMPLETELY touched by this. Here is a man that is already putting his life on the line for me... and yet he took the time out of his precious two weeks at home to go shopping and bring donations for other troops. Just amazing...

So... again Thank you Miss Andi!! Thank you Rick for being a great chauffeur and branch director!! Thank you Dawn for giving us your time (dinner and the game).

And most importantly... Thank you to our troops... who never cease to amaze me...

Sincerly,
Sara
